How to Get Rid of Acne

What is definitely effective against acne, what causes acne and what types of acne exist? The specialist of our Manufaktura cosmetic development department will answer these questions and share her years of experience, advice and tips on how to take care of problematic skin.

Problematic skin, acne and pimples can be very stressful. Acne is related mainly to hormonal changes during adolescence, but it often affects also adults.

Acne often occurs not only on the face, forehead, chin, but also on the back. It is a complex matter, which is besides genetics and hormonal changes closely linked to our lifestyle, so that is why the care of sensitive skin prone to acne should be, in particular, extra gentle.

However, regular care is not always sufficient and acne treatment, which should be consulted with a corrective dermatologist, or at least a cosmetic specialist focused on acne, is necessary. Fortunately, long-term clinical treatment concerns only a small percentage of population. The rest of us should know at least some basic information and rules.

How to get rid of acne by means of cosmetic products?

Choose effective acne products that can sooth problematic, oily and irritated skin and help improve its condition. However, selection and purchase of acne cosmetics is not everything. It takes time and patience. Conscientious and regular care in 3 steps is important.

1.Thorough cleansing and hygiene
2.Gentle treatment and toning
3.Deep hydration and natural balance

Which mistakes should you avoid in the care of problematic skin and what causes acne? Not only these questions did we ask in Manufaktura development department.

Eva Feldeková is a developer of Manufaktura cosmetics and, among other things, she participated in the development of the Clear & Happy cosmetic range targeting oily and acne skin. We asked her several questions concerning acne and the care of problematic skin.

How does acne develop?

Acne is an inflammatory disease of hair follicles and associated sebaceous glands. At least one sebaceous gland is attached to each hair follicle. The glands secrete sebum into hair follicles, from where it reaches the surface of the skin.

Under normal circumstances the cells in the hair follicle renew themselves steadily and continuously. A problem occurs when this balance is disturbed, when sebaceous glands increase production of sebum, when bacteria reproduce excessively and this results in inflammatory reaction of the skin. Then the primary lesions of acne, i. e. blackheads (open comedones) and whiteheads (closed comedones), appear. The closed comedones may result in more serious inflamed forms of acne.

What types of acne exist?

1. Blackheads
2. Whiteheads – non-inflammatory type of acne (reddish spots with a whitish head)
3. Papules – untreated white bumps that turn into small to medium-sized red pimples
4. Pustules – papules with white puss
5. Cysts – the most severe form of acne accompanied with pain and leaving deep scars in the skin.

According to the type, acne is classified as:

⋅ Mild acne – blackheads and whiteheads, sometimes also papules, appear.
⋅ Moderate acne – significantly redder type of acne – papules and pustules. In this case we choose such cosmetic products that alleviate irritation and prevent development of scars or pigment spots.
⋅ Severe acne = cystic acne. Only a dermatologist should treat it.

What should the best acne products contain?

Selection of suitable high-quality cosmetics, which ensures thorough cleansing and intense hydration, should be definitely a crucial factor in the care of problematic skin. The best acne products are gentle and do not clog pores.

What is the basis of the care of problematic skin?

It is definitely regular and high-quality make-up removal and skin cleansing twice a day. By means of thorough cleansing, we remove impurities from the skin and prepare it for reception of active substances from moisturising and regenerating skincare products.

Toning and the last steps of cleansing follow. The best skin tonic for problematic skin should gently and effectively remove skin impurities and sebum, refresh and sooth often irritated skin.

Clear & Happy Lotion and Tonic for Acne tones the skin and leaves it fresh and brightened, it shrinks pores and regulates sebum production, helps eliminates the signs of acne, redness and skin imperfections.

Application of light moisturising cream for face intended for problematic and oily skin follows. If you are troubled by occasional pimples (acne) on the face, chin, forehead or neck, try local care for drying and soothing, which you can apply anytime during the day.

CLEAR & HAPPY Face Cream for Problematic Skin – light moisturising face cream with fresh cucumber fragrance significantly reduces acne, matte too oily skin and restores softness of dry skin. It creates a barrier protecting the skin from adverse environmental impacts.

Thorough skin cleansing by means of scrub and subsequent intense nourishment ensured by application of face pack is important too.

CLEAR & HAPPY 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel, Scrub & Face Pack with fresh cucumber fragrance is absolutely essential in the care of oily and acne-prone skin. It guarantees perfect and deep skin cleansing, mitigates the symptoms of acne, hydrates and brightens the skin. Thanks to this the skin can absorb effective substances from subsequent cosmetic products.

Tip for Local Treatment

If an undesired pimple appears during the night, you can call SOS in the form of Clear & Happy Herbal Gel, which serves as immediate local aid. It is suitable mainly for problematic, oily and acne-prone skin, however, all types of skin appreciate it when pimples appear from time to time.

The Formula Full of Nature

A great benefit of this range is highly natural composition and allergen-free perfume with fresh cucumber scent that perfectly underlines the feeling of refreshment and relief.

⋅ The unique natural complex of cress, ivy, lemon, sage and burdock reduces sebum production
⋅ Hydrating and soothing cucumber extract
⋅ Lichen extract with valuable usnic acid having strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects

What else can we do to support our “skin well-being”?

We should pay attention to overall improvement of our lifestyle, which includes physical activity, regular and high-quality sleep, a healthy and balanced diet, as well as a healthy mental and emotional state.

Which mistakes should we avoid in the care of problematic skin?

Soothing problematic skin and eliminating acne requires patience, so use the product ideally for 6 to 8 weeks to be able to objectively assess its functionality.

1. Always remove your make-up before you go to bed.
2. Do not focus only on the already formed pimples but regularly apply suitable products to the entire skin.
3. Do not share your make-up or brush with anyone else.
4. Beware of excessive drying. Acne-prone skin is oily, so you may tend to apply astringent products. Do not do it. Dry skin = irritated skin that is prone to formation of other imperfections.
5. Resist the temptation to squeeze pimples and treat your skin with products intended for problematic skin.
6. If you suffer from deep or painful acne, seek professional consultation.

We wish you nice days and satisfied skin,
