100 % CZECH COMPANY
In 1991 Prague was newly open to foreigners from all over the world. There very only few stores where they could have bought typical Czech souvenirs. So, an idea to exploit wonderful premises in the historic centre of Prague and to offer to the tourists the best of the traditional Czech toy manufacturing, which was almost on the brink of extinction, was born. We set out in the Czech and Moravian countryside and bought all sorts of possible things – from traditional woven straw dolls, hand painted Easter eggs to wooden toys.
We found beautiful premises in a former laundry of the Dominican covent in Jilská street, we embellished them with original historicizing decorations from antique shops and opened up our first store. Only a few days later we were delighted to see that tourists found the traditional products representing the Czech culture exceptionally attractive. Shortly after that we opened other stores in the heart of old Prague.
Step by step we have managed to associate more than 250 small craftsmen, former masters of folk craft, tradition holders and small Czech companies the products of whom we have been selling to this day. We contribute to maintain the unique craft techniques by selling these products and cooperating on their development, design and protection.
We have never left the idea of the Czech origin of our products and quality is still of paramount importance to us. Thanks to the unique design of our stores evoking the good old time atmosphere and thanks to the exceptional level of our customer service we have managed to establish a successful network of MANUFAKTURA Original Czech Tradition stores located in the centre of Prague, in the area of Prague castle and at Vaclav Havel airport.
AND HOW ABOUT THE COSMETICS?
The idea to enrich the range of craft products and toys with own cosmetic products was suprisingly triggered by the magic of the place where we had the central store at that time. These were premises of the former Kadlec soap works in Libeň. It was a challenge for us, lovers of good old times, to brush up the tradition of fresh glycerine soap. We got down to search for historical information, we engaged universities and cosmetic specialists in collaboration and the project of manufacturing fresh glycerine soap was launched. The soap was successful and thanks to the increasing demand for other products, the soap was gradually enriched with other cosmetic products inspired by Czech history and Czech countryside. The content of original ingredients – Czech beer, wine, Carlsbad thermal spring salt, healing herbs and fruits from Czech gardens, orchards and medows – has been always characteristic of our cosmetic products. Later on the whole cosmetic concept was integrated with the idea of home spa based on the world famous Czech spa tradition, which was also a reaction to the contemporary fast-moving times lacking of calm, ease and rest.
MANUFAKTURA - ORIGINAL HOME SPA CONCEPT
In 2005 the range of our products reached such a level that we embarked on establishing a network of stores called MANUFAKTURA – Your Home Spa. Our target is to teach our clients how to relax and how to take care of themselves by means of our cosmetics, accessories and interesting home spa recipes. Our stores are attractive also for their atmosphere – they are peaceful places where you can stop, take a breath and slow down. Moreover, our pleasant, smiling and accommodating staff provide unique level of service in our stores.
The first MANUFAKTURA - Your Home Spa store was opened up in Chodov Shopping Mall in Prague. Other stores in the largest shopping malls throughout the whole Czech Republic followed. The first store with a home-spa concept was launched in Slovakia in 2012 and the others shortly afterwards. Currently we have a network of 53 stores in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia. The network also includes four franchise stores indistinguishable from the proper ones.
For more than 30 years, our company has been successfully operating thanks to the enthusiasm of the creators, honest quality and respect for the traditions, which we are proud of.
